Size and fit

Select a child’s wheelchair according to current body measurements, required trunk support and ability to propel the wheels. Age alone does not determine fit. Confirm seat width and depth, footrest height and strap placement with a rehabilitation or occupational therapy professional when needed. Visible straps do not establish suitability for every child or replace a prescribed positioning system.

Use

1. Open the chair and check that the frame, wheels and supports are secure before seating the child.
2. Apply the brakes during transfers and move footplates and the transfer-side armrest out of the way when appropriate, with adult supervision.
3. Return supports to position, support the feet and adjust straps according to product instructions and professional advice without excessive pressure.
4. Allow self-propulsion only when the child’s abilities and chair fit permit it, with appropriate supervision. Otherwise, an attendant should push the chair.
5. Inspect brakes, straps and supports regularly. Clean and dry the fabric and wheels.
